During a 6-day visit to Hawassa University a Training of Trainers program was conducted at the university’s main campus in Hawassa, Ethiopia. A core output of the programme was to capacitate local educators with the skills needed to apply application-orientated teaching through the digital simulation technology.

Participants were selected from different departments within Hawassa University and guests were invited from different incubation hubs around Hawassa to attend the training programme. The main coordinators from Hawassa University were Yitna Tesfaye and Tirusew Teshale who ensured the programme ran smoothly. Participants were guided on how to run the digital simulation so that they are able to teach participants how to instil an entrepreneurial mindset and how to become successful entrepreneurs.

24 participants attended the programme and received certificates of completion for successfully completing the course. Results from the capacitation programme in Hawassa have been extremely positive. Early indications have shown that participants felt that incorporating digital simulation into entrepreneurial learning pathways would assist entrepreneurs in instilling a ‘can do’ mind-set.

Initiatives have already begun within Ethiopia about potentially integrating the simulation technology into current learning pathways and entrepreneurial development courses.
