Food Startup Incubator: Developing new foods at HSWT
With its unique infrastructure, the Food Startup Incubator Weihenstephan (FSIWS) offers the perfect location for product development and small-scale production of innovative food and packaging.
We help budding entrepreneurs to realise their food ideas - with knowledge transfer in modules, free webinars or a one-year certificate course for founding a food startup. We support HSWT internal and associated people interested in setting up a company, as well as in finding suitable financial support and in applying for EXIST scholarships.
Infrastructure for food founders in Weihenstephan
The incubator at the Institute for Food Technology (ILM) of the HSWT offers its comprehensive infrastructure, apart from student founding teams and start-ups, to our certificate participants.
From laboratory scale to small-scale industrial production for liquid, solid and powdered foods, up to the safe packaging of the products, a variety of pilot plants are available. Future entrepreneurs can also use our coworking space with a seminar area and the meeting rooms or offices at FSIWS.
Marlies Resch or Marina Michalsky will gladly help with usage requests for the FSIWS infrastructure.
Knowledge transfer at the Food Startup Incubator
The FSIWS interdisciplinary team of food technologists and experts on business administration and marketing supports the founders with individual coaching and workshops for a successful start-up.
By imparting expert knowledge, we support both questions on food development and production as well as start-up-related issues.
Financial support for food start-ups
There is a wide range of financial support available for the realisation of product ideas in the food sector: from government agencies and private investors as well as from funds for start-up projects. We support HSWT members and founders of the FSIWS in their search for suitable funding. Veronika Hannus, head of business administration at the FSIWS, is also available to help with the application process.

Network for founders in the food sector
The FSIWS connects students interested in founding a company, prospective founders and start-ups with business partners and companies in the early stages of their development. HSWT alumni or entrepreneurs associated with HSWT pass on their entrepreneurial experience via the HSWT network.
We welcome people to join us as mentors for start-ups or student founding teams. The Food Startup Incubator team is available to answer questions about the network and mentorship programmes.
