Studying Forestry and Timber Management in the Master's programme: International Course at HSWT

With the Master 's degree in International Management of Forest Industries, you will enter the top echelons of the international forestry and timber industry: During the Master's degree programme, you will deepen your qualifications in the field of management. Wood is the resource of the future. However, the sustainable use of wood is threatened by other forms of land use and the consequences of climate change. Globalisation and digitalisation are further challenges. In order to manage these requirements, well-trained managers with innovative approaches are needed.

The International Management of Forest Industries degree programme therefore focuses on:

  • Industry Proximity

The University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf developed the Master International Management of Forest Industries in close cooperation with industry companies from Germany and abroad. In the process, these main competences crystallised, which the students should have at their disposal after completing their Master's degree:

  • Forestry-related specialisations (building on the bachelor's degree)
  • Management of internal & external value-added processes
  • national, international & global markets of wood & wood products

The Master's thesis is also written in close cooperation with companies from the sector in Germany and abroad.

  • International Orientation

The International Management of Forest Industries degree programme is designed and implemented jointly with the Bern University of Applied Sciences (HAFL) in Zollikofen. On completion of all the courses provided in the programme, students obtain a cooperative Double Degree Master: International Management of Forest Industries (M. Sc.) at the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences and Life Sciences – Forest Sciences with specialisation in International Forest and Timber Management (M. Sc.) at HAFL.

  • Active Insights into Practice:

The Master's programme takes place in close cooperation with partner companies in the forestry and timber industry. Part-time lecturers and speakers from practice contribute their expertise. In numerous modules, direct contact is established with representatives from practice and research within the framework of case studies, guest lectures and group work.

The structure of the Forestry Master

The programme can be started in the winter and summer semester. The courses take place primarily online, with some attendance blocks. The courses in the summer semester are organised entirely by Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences, the winter semester by Bern University of Applied Sciences.

Please note that the start of the winter semester in Zollikofen is already at the beginning of September! The third semester is reserved exclusively for the Master's thesis.

You decide at which location you enrol. You will stay there until the end of your studies. If you change your place of study, you do not need to re-enrol as this is organised as an exchange semester.

The Master International Management of Forest Industries was designed to respond to the advancing globalisation in the forestry and timber industry. Wood and wood products are increasingly traded and transported internationally. The economically and internationally oriented Master's programme enables you to apply your knowledge in these professional fields after graduation:

Requirements for Admission to the Master's Programme International Management of Forest Industries

The Master's programme is aimed at alumni of diploma or bachelor's degree programmes in the fields of wood and forestry. These are the prerequisites for the Master's programme International Management of Forest Industries:

  • A completed university degree in Forestry, Timber Industry or Management of Renewable Energies. In justified exceptional cases, the admission requirements can be deviated from after approval by the examination board.
  • Proof of language level B2 for the English language, as this is the language of instruction in the courses. Information on recognised certificates can be found here.
  • Proof of sufficient German language skills (language level A1 or higher) if you are applying with a degree from a non-German University of Applied Sciences. This proof can also be provided during your studies, so it is not necessary for enrolment.
  • If you have a degree from abroad, you need a "Vorprüfungsdokumentation" (VPD) from uni-assist to apply for the International Management of Forest Industries degree programme. Submitting a uni-assist test report is not sufficient!
