Experimental Station for Fruit Growing

The Experimental Station and the Lindau 2021 Horticultural Show

The time has come: The garden show in Lindau is finally taking place, and the experiment station is part of it! Guided tours and lectures are offered here. Horticultural associations will come up with garden, nature and environment-related activities on selected weekends, and a scavenger hunt will connect Schlachters with the other two satellite sites Scheidegg (waterfalls) and Weiler (Hausbachklamm).

Nature trail: rediscovering old orchards

From the welcome square, visitors can embark on their own journey through variety and fruit-growing history of our region on a freely accessible nature trail. On numerous beautifully illustrated display boards, they first learn exciting and curious facts about fruit growing in the Allgäu. How did fruit growing and the different varieties get here, what were they used for, and what exactly is a variety?

Research and variety preservation in practice

From the education building, the journey continues to the central conservation and viewing garden for pome fruit variety diversity of Swabia. Research in pome fruit and practical conservation work are remarkable on this part of the nature trail. Even though the variety garden is still in its infancy, it is possible to gain impressive insights into the history of the experimental station, practical conservation work, modern commercial cultivation and current research projects in this part of the trail.
