Presidents of Ethiopian universities and representatives of the Ethiopian Ministry of Education and GIZ visited the Centre for International Affairs (ZI).

What is HSWT's concept for applied teaching in the fields of Regional Management, Horticulture and Environmental Technology? How does the Green University of Applied Sciences organise its sustainability strategy?

A delegation of presidents from Ethiopian universities of applied sciences as well as representatives from the Ethiopian Ministry of Education and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) were able to get an idea of this on site. The ZI welcomed the guests to the Weihenstephan campus last Monday as part of the "African-Bavarian Alliance for Applied Life Sciences", which is funded by the Bavarian State Chancellery.

Cooperation agreement with Debre Markos University

The delegation learnt about HSWT and its unique expertise in the field of applied green life sciences in various presentations: Among others, Prof Dr Jennifer Gerend, Professor of Regional Management and Social Science Methods, gave a lecture on practice-oriented teaching at HSWT.

During the event, Dr Tafere Melaku Yalew, President of Debre Markos University, and Prof. Dr Carsten Lorz, Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity, signed a cooperation agreement. Debre Markos University has been a partner in the DAAD project "HAW.International" since 2022, in which various international study programmes are jointly developed. A HSWT delegation trip to Ethiopia is planned for the end of the year in order to consolidate the network with Ethiopian universities in the long term.

Close cooperation in African-Bavarian Alliance

The delegation trip to Weihenstephan took place as part of a GIZ-funded project by Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences together with the Centre for Higher Education Development and the African-Bavarian Alliance for Applied Life Sciences. The aim of the African-Bavarian Alliance is to establish a network between HSWT and partner institutions - from higher education, the public sector and the private sector in Africa - including from Ethiopia.
