Studying at the HSWT with a disability
No matter what special needs you have: At Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences, it is particularly important to us that you have access to the full range of social, academic and cultural services that our university has to offer. It is part of our philosophy to realise equal opportunities and to enable all students to participate in the study system.
The University of applied sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf offers the following services to these students:
-
Counselling on individual examination conditions
-
Counselling on suitable accommodation
-
Course materials in an alternative format
-
Advice on support staff such as note takers or sign language interpreters
-
Advice & support when applying for grants (also for a stay abroad)
We recognise that each student's special needs can affect them in different ways and tailor our support accordingly.
Financial support
According to the 21st Social Survey conducted by the Deutsches Studentenwerk in 2016, almost eleven per cent of all students suffer from a disability, impairment or chronic illness. For these students, studying is often more time-consuming and regularly involves a higher financial burden. For this reason, there are exceptions to student financing with Federal Education and Training Assistance Act for this target group with regard to
-
income crediting
-
the crediting of assets
-
the duration of studies
-
exceeding the age limit
-
any necessary change of specialisation.
-
the loan repayment
In addition, you may be entitled to additional needs in accordance with SGB II and SGB XII. Our clerks will be happy to advise you. You can find more information at Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern or Studierendenwerk Erlangen-Nürnberg.
Are you one of those who do not receive Federal Education and Training Assistance Act? Then the Munich Student Union can offer you alternative financing models. You can get tips on this from the Study Credit Advice Service.
Many students decide to complete a study or internship semester abroad. Students with disabilities, chronic illnesses or other special needs receive financial support for such stays abroad. For more information, please contact the International Office, Funding and Career Service of the HSWT.
