Topics on the Master’s programme in International Environmental Engineering

As a student on the Master’s in International Environmental Engineering, you will develop your technical expertise on global topics such as soil, water and air pollution, decarbonisation, ecological engineering, global warming, sustainable energy supplies, waste and recycling, and microplastic and macroplastic management. Your Master’s thesis is an opportunity to develop a deep specialisation, while a series of elective modules convey additional knowledge in the fields of sustainability, management skills and economics.

Master’s in International Environmental Engineering: Programme structure

Full-time students normally complete the degree programme in three semesters. Each semester comprises a total of 25 ECTS from compulsory modules and 5 ECTS from compulsory elective courses. The full-time programme concludes in the third semester with the Master’s thesis and a colloquium.

Advanced English courses are compulsory for German students; German courses to reach Level A2 are compulsory for international students.

Admission requirements for Master’s in International Environmental Engineering

  • Applicants to the Master’s degree programme must have completed (or be about to complete) their undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree with a final grade of “good” or 2.5 (in the German grading system)or better.
  • Your Bachelor’s degree should focus on one of the following areas: environmental engineering, climate-neutral energy systems, water management or agricultural engineering. Bachelor’s degrees (e.g. B. Eng, B. Sc.) in water, soil, environmental and energy sciences are also acceptable. Students with a general engineering degree are also welcome to apply.
  • As a general rule, students must have earned 210 ECTS in their Bachelor’s degree. However, students can also be admitted with a Bachelor’s worth 180 ECTS – and make up the missing credits by taking additional theoretical and practical courses.
  • If you have not yet received your Bachelor’s degree certificate, you can submit it by the end of the first semester.
  • Classes are held in English. Applicants must therefore provide proof of sufficient English language proficiency (Level B2 or higher) . International students must also demonstrate basic German language skills (Level A2 or higher) by the end of their second semester.
