The Bachelor's degree programme in Energy and Water Management combines two vital areas of supply: technically sound, sustainable and with a view to the future. During your studies at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences, you will acquire engineering, scientific and economic fundamentals as well as practical knowledge of water supply, wastewater treatment, energy supply and energy management. This is complemented by up-to-date content on climate-neutral energy systems, sustainable infrastructure planning and resource management.

The focus is on the consequences of climate change: extreme weather such as heavy rainfall and periods of drought pose new challenges for water management. At the same time, the provision of drinking water and the purification of wastewater requires more and more energy. During your studies, you will learn how sustainable concepts are developed at the interface of energy and water management in order to counter the consequences of climate change, use energy efficiently and ensure a safe water supply.

The aim of the programme is to prepare you to develop innovative technical solutions at the interface of energy and water management to ensure a safe, resource-efficient and sustainable supply. In this way, you will make an active contribution to overcoming the central challenges of our time, such as climate change, the energy transition and securing our livelihoods: a degree programme with high social relevance and good career prospects.

The modules of the Bachelor's degree programme in Energy and Water Management combine technical, scientific and economic knowledge with a clear practical orientation. The content addresses current challenges such as climate change, the energy transition and the increasing demand for water and combines engineering solutions with ecological responsibility.

Through your degree programme, you will acquire sound and interdisciplinary skills in areas such as

  • Sustainable water supply, treatment and wastewater treatment,
  • dealing with heavy rainfall, dry periods, flooding and the protection of water bodies,
  • urban water management and water-sensitive urban development,
  • Climate-neutral energy supply, energy management and the expansion of renewable energies such as geothermal energy, hydropower and hydrogen,
  • Linking sustainable energy concepts with environmental and water protection as well as sustainable infrastructure planning,
  • Legal affairs in environmental, energy, water and commercial law.

A particular focus of the Bachelor's degree programme is the close connection between water and energy management, for example in the recovery of energy from wastewater, the use of oxygen from hydrogen production for wastewater treatment or the increasing energy demand for drinking water treatment.

The course content is practically orientated and is supplemented by excursions, project work and current contributions from the specialist world . In this way, you will learn right from the start how theory and practice in energy and water management can be meaningfully combined.

Programme structure of the Bachelor's degree in Energy & Water Management

The Bachelor's degree programme in Energy and Water Management is designed for seven semesters . In each of the first four semesters, you will take six modules that will provide you with a broad basic knowledge in the fields of energy, water and the environment.

The fifth semester is designed entirely as an internship semester. During this time, you will work for 20 weeks in a company or organisation of your choice and gain direct insights into the professional world of the energy and water industry. In the sixth semester, the focus is on project work and current topics from the field in the form of lectures, workshops and plant visits.

In the seventh semester, you will concentrate on the final specialisation in both subject areas and write your Bachelor's thesis. You will complete your degree programme with a well-founded specialist profile that ideally combines theory and practice.
