Why did you choose the Regional Management degree programme?
I actually have a background in social and political sciences and have worked in the NGO sector. That’s why I knew I wanted to make a difference in my career – beyond simply protesting. The issues of the shift to the right and social cohesion have been on my mind for several years now. In my view, participation, having a say and experiencing a sense of self-efficacy can make an important contribution to strengthening social cohesion. I am convinced that people need to feel a sense of belonging and that their voices are heard if political radicalisation is to find less fertile ground. This is exactly where Regional Management comes in for me. By talking to people and supporting them in actively shaping their living conditions, we can help to develop regions in a more sustainable way – ecologically, economically and, above all, socially.
What advice can you give to first-year students?
Make the most of the many opportunities to meet people during your studies! You’ll meet fascinating people from all sorts of different fields. For me, this has been incredibly good in getting a better sense of the career paths available after graduation.
I was also completely taken aback by the Triesdorf campus. I’m from the Cologne-Bonn area in North Rhine-Westphalia and moved to Middle Franconia specifically to do my Master’s. At first, I was really worried that I wouldn’t like living in such a small village. But actually, I’d make the same decision again in a heartbeat. My tip: just give Triesdorf a go!
