Horticulture ranges from gardening production to horticultural products through to gardening services. Horticultural engineers are responsible for more than just technical matters. Horticultural engineers do not only take care of technical issues, they are also tasked with translating scientific knowledge about cultivation, labour and corporate aspects into horticultural practice.
Students are provided with natural science fundamentals during the core programme (1st to 3rd semester). Knowledge of mathematics and physics is needed, for example, if we want to calculate the capacity of a new heating system, while chemistry is a must if we want to assess the miscibility of various fertilisers. In addition, students look at the different areas of horticulture during the 1st semester: tree nursery, vegetable- and fruit-growing, herbaceous and ornamental plant cultivation.
During the specialisation section of the programme (4th, 5th and 7th semesters), students have the opportunity to pursue their own interests and professional goals. HSWT offers two specialisations to choose from:
Within these specialisations, students can choose several elective modules. A practical training (6th semester) complements the specialisation semesters.
