The research interests of Robert Panitz and his research group range from approaches in regional studies and economic geography to topics in technology and innovation management, as well as studies on corporate relocation, organizational and regional transformation, and relational approaches focusing on global value chains and networks. His research is strongly influenced by sociological and organizational perspectives.
In recent years, issues related to sustainability and governance of natural resources have become a central focus of his work. Among other topics, he examines the development of a hydrogen economy and the battery industry. In addition, he has increasingly focused on questions of innovation and technology development.
Alongside the use of traditional qualitative and quantitative methods in research and teaching, he applies methods of social network analysis. His research experience ranges from third-party funded basic research projects to industry studies and applied corporate and regional research.
