Representatives of international ministries of agriculture at the HSWT
Agriculture ministers and deputy ministers from Armenia, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Latvia visited the Weihenstephan campus of the HSWT on 2 October as part of a visit to Bavaria.
Agricultural Ministers' Meeting
Bavaria's Minister of Agriculture, Michaela Kaniber, had already welcomed the delegations to the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism (StMELF) the day before. The international meeting, which was organised by the StMELF together with the HSWT, focused on strengthening partnerships as well as exchanging expertise.
Facing challenges together
Dr Eric Veulliet, President of the HSWT, welcomed the guests to the university and emphasised in his opening remarks that only together can resilience to global agricultural challenges be formed and that bridges between countries can be built through constant exchange. In his subsequent presentation of the university, the President drew particular attention to the solutions offered by the degree programmes for real challenges in the industry sectors of the target professions.
Networking, sustainability, transformation
Prof. Dr Carsten Lorz, Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity, made it clear in his presentation that the HSWT, with its global network, is striving for a platform for long-term partnerships from which the participating countries benefit in many ways. Prof Dr Christoph Moning, Vice President Research and Knowledge Transfer, used the HSWT's key research areas and projects to show how the strong practical aspect of the students' education has an important influence on shaping a sustainable future worldwide. Dr Aram Aristakesyan, Head of International Continuing Education, then outlined the unique selling points of Bavaria's higher education sector and explained how the transformation of successful systems can also work in other countries.
Round table
This was followed by a discussion on the implementation of the concept for promoting agricultural development through Bavarian modern further education, practical training, lifelong learning and sustainable knowledge transfer in partner countries, taking individual perspectives into account.
Varied accompanying programme
At the end of the visit, the delegations took part in guided tours of the campus grounds. This gave them an insight into the research facilities and the diverse research projects, such as smart indoor farming and AI-supported agricultural tools.
Further information on the delegations' visit to the StMELF can be found in the press release from the State Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism.
