The “TunPrev” project was represented at the International Conference on Soil and Water Resources Management for Combating Desertification in Drylands under Climate Change (SWDCC 2026), which took place in May on the Tunisian island of Djerba.

The international conference brought together researchers, experts and decision-makers to discuss current challenges and innovative solutions for sustainable soil and water resource management, as well as adaptation to climate change in arid regions.

As part of the scientific programme, Ismail Bouizrou presented the latest research findings in a keynote lecture entitled ‘First Assessment of Decadal Drought Prediction Skill in Southern Tunisia Using Multi-Model Ensembles and Observational Evaluation’. The presentation outlined initial findings on the predictability of droughts in southern Tunisia and highlighted how multi-model ensembles can help support long-term strategies for climate adaptation and water resource planning in particularly vulnerable arid regions.

Participation in SWDCC 2026 provided a valuable platform for international scientific exchange, networking with experts and the presentation of the project’s research work.

TunPrev is funded by the Bavarian State Chancellery.
