STREAMING reaches major milestone in the collection of trade data in Africa
The international research project STREAMING has reached a significant milestone: as part of the project, one of the world’s largest datasets on non-tariff measures (NTMs) in Africa has been compiled. The database provides a vital foundation for evidence-based decision-making in trade and economic policy, as well as for deepening cooperation between Africa and Europe.
The new dataset comprises a total of 426,048 records from 45 African countries. This covers 98 per cent of the member states of the African Union and the European Union. Complete datasets were collected for 36 African countries.
Non-tariff trade barriers, such as technical regulations, quality standards or import requirements, play a central role in international trade. A reliable data foundation enables policy-makers to analyse economic developments more effectively, target the removal of trade barriers and promote sustainable economic growth.
Through close cooperation between partner institutions in Europe and Africa, STREAMING contributes to the development of innovative and practical solutions to current economic challenges.
