From 24 to 28 November 2025, the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences campus and the Triesdorf campus of the HSWT were transformed into an open climate university for everyone as part of the Public Climate School (PCS).

The climate crisis has an impact on the everyday lives of all living beings. The PCS used offers and expert contributions to demonstrate ways in which we can protect our climate in everyday life and at work. The Public Climate School is part of a nationwide week of action taking place at schools, universities of applied sciences and museums - with the aim of making climate education accessible to as many people as possible.

Living sustainability together

In addition to the kick-off event „Climate crisis - still an issue?“, the PCS offered all interested parties a varied programme in Weihenstephan. A sustainable dinner was prepared together with representatives from local farm shops. The focus was on the compatibility of enjoyment and sustainability, as particular attention was paid to regional and seasonal ingredients.

At the Market of Initiatives, various organisations and shops presented their contribution to sustainability. From clothing made from sustainable fabrics and fair-trade food to knowledge transfer in plant cultivation - interested parties had the opportunity to find out about the fields of activity of the individual exhibitors and engage in dialogue.

A pub quiz gave participants an entertaining introduction to the topic of climate and sustainability in a relaxed atmosphere and the various teams were able to put their knowledge to the test.

Passing on knowledge about sustainability

In Triesdorf, the cross-faculty panel discussion „(Survival) livelihoods in transition: How is the climate changing the environment and Agriculture?“ posed the question of how secure our livelihoods are in times of climate change.

Books, clothes and jerseys could be swapped and the topic of sustainability explored at a swap party organised by the Green Office in collaboration with AK Grün, AK Garten, University Sports Football and EV/EL Catering.

Professors and students offered workshops for pupils from Weidenbach Primary School and FOS/BOS Triesdorf, in which the topics of climate and sustainability were prepared for the respective age group. The participants were sensitised to their own influence on the climate in everyday life.

The Public Climate School makes it clear that there are many ways to actively contribute to sustainability and the climate. The response to the events on offer shows that there is a great willingness to stand up for the climate.
