Climate & Moorland poster series: educational programme for schools
The PSC and BLZ series explains the peatland ecosystem to schoolchildren, conveys scientific findings on climate relevance and derives political and social issues from this.
In view of the advancing climate crisis, it is of central importance to make ecological interrelationships understandable and to enable people to act responsibly. Education - especially political education and school-based educational programmes - helps to raise awareness of the challenges of climate change and promote the ability to act. This is why the Peatland Science Centre (PSC) and the Bavarian State Centre for Political Education (BLZ) have jointly developed the Climate & Moor poster series.
Prof. Dr Matthias Drösler, Director of the PSC, emphasises: „We draw attention to topics relevant to the future at an early stage and create a solid basis for a fact-based discussion of the subject. Pupils are the future adults who should be encouraged to work towards solutions in the face of major global challenges.“ The cooperation with the BLZ shows how joint projects can reach a broad public and serve as a model for future projects.
Accompanying booklet complements poster series
The posters are aimed at pupils in secondary schools in Bavaria from lower secondary level upwards. The level of difficulty of the content increases as the poster number progresses. More challenging topics are made accessible via links to online resources and a supplementary booklet to encourage independent study of further questions. Some of the content is also suitable for year 4 and above. The poster series and accompanying booklet provide teachers with free access to high-quality and scientifically up-to-date educational material. This means that the increasingly socially relevant topic of „peatlands and their impact on the climate“ can be communicated and discussed in an understandable way in the classroom.
Download and ordering options
