International cooperation on direct marketing in Agriculture
International cooperation on direct marketing in Agriculture
Under the management of Prof Dr iur Tanja Barton, the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf conducted a comprehensive study on direct marketing in Bavaria's agricultural sector in 2023. Around 1,000 farmers and direct marketers from the state took part in the online survey, the results of which provide valuable insights into the current state of direct marketing. The analysis identified both challenges and opportunities for improvement, including how to deal with bureaucratic hurdles.
International workshop as a follow-up project
Building on the findings of the study, the Centre for International Affairs at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences organised an international workshop on direct marketing. Participants from various African universities such as Stellenbosch University (South Africa), the University of the Free State (South Africa), Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (Kenya), South Eastern Kenya University (Kenya), the University of Tunis El Manar (Tunisia), the University of Gabes (Tunisia) and Université Gaston Berger (Senegal) took part in this meeting. The aim was to discuss the challenges and opportunities of direct marketing in Bavaria and on the African continent.
Valuable exchange and practical insights
The week was characterised by intensive discussions and informative excursions to dedicated farmers and organisations that are committed to marketing high-quality and organic agricultural products. Visits included UNSER LAND, the Hartlhof farm shop and Beim Falterbauer Hofvermarktung. There were also contributions from the TAGWERK co-operative, Tölzer Kasladen and Biohof Königsfeld.
The workshop was organised and carried out in close cooperation with the House of Bavarian Agriculture in Herrsching. The activities took place in Freising as well as in Herrsching and the surrounding area.
Support from the Bavarian State Chancellery
The initiative was funded by the Bavarian State Chancellery as part of the African-Bavarian Alliance 2.0 and also received valuable contributions from the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism (StMELF), the Office for Bureaucracy Reduction of the Bavarian State Chancellery and the Bavarian Farmers' Association.
With a successful start to the year 2025, the organisers and participants are looking forward to seeing what further positive developments will emerge from this inspiring week.
