HSWT students in Senegal: Successful exchange as part of the FAMFISK programme

Die Studierenden sitzen im Kreis und arbeiten alle mit ihren Händen mit der Erde vor Ihnen.

As part of the FAMFISK project, a delegation from Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HSWT) visited Université du Sine Saloum El Hadj Ibrahima Niass (USSEIN) in Senegal from 17 February to 6 March 2025.

The tandem project, organised in cooperation with Maschinenring Foundation and Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirtschaft (bbw), enabled four students and one doctoral candidate from HSWT to work together with Senegalese partners on specific issues. The aim of the visit was to strengthen academic and practice-orientated exchange with a focus on agricultural machinery, Food Technology and dairy farming. The group was supported on site by bbw trainer Josef Mangold and translator Fatimata Diallo from USSEIN.

  • 05.03.2025 - Conclusion & evaluation
Participation in a mechanical engineering course at USSEIN, feedback session and joint project conclusion.

The four tandem projects covered key topics in agricultural and Food Technology. One project was dedicated to improving a seed drill with animal traction in order to increase its efficiency and adaptability to local conditions. Another team worked on optimising the value chain in food processing, particularly with regard to the quality assurance and shelf life of products. The production and application of alginate, a natural gelling agent with a wide range of uses in Agriculture and Horticulture, was also investigated. The fourth project focussed on improving the feed supply for dairy cows. All projects were implemented in a practical manner and supplemented by close dialogue with local farms and experts.

The three-week stay not only enabled intensive professional collaboration, but also promoted intercultural understanding and helped to further deepen the university partnership between HSWT and USSEIN, which has already existed for several years.

The participants look back on the diverse experiences and impressions on site with enthusiasm, were able to make valuable contacts and benefited in particular from the intensive exchange of knowledge with the partners in Senegal. The project was made possible through funding from the Bavarian State Chancellery.
