HSWT successfully completes three international cooperation projects
Three major international projects were recently successfully completed at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences.
The “Green Futures” project (funded by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity) focused on strengthening the capabilities of various stakeholder groups — including students, farmers and agricultural advisers — as well as marginalised groups in the agricultural sector in southern Africa through targeted knowledge transfer initiatives. The thematic focus was on regional and local challenges such as climate resilience through water management, the circular economy, agrobiodiversity, indigenous and underutilised crops, agri-food innovation and data science. The project drew on the expertise of consortium partners from South Africa, Zambia, Kenya and Senegal.
The “FAMFISK” project (funded by the Bavarian State Chancellery) aimed to strengthen practice-oriented training at partner universities in Senegal and Kenya, using the establishment of machinery rings in both countries as a practical example. The project implementation comprised various training programmes and exchange formats in the fields of Agriculture and Food Technology, including a summer school for students from Senegal, a winter school for students from Kenya, partial qualification programmes for professors and staff of the machinery rings, as well as networking activities. In total, more than 900 participants benefited from the training and activities within the framework of the project.
As part of the “HAW.International” project (funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space via the “HAW.International” programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)), international study programmes were developed in collaboration with partner universities in Kenya, Ethiopia, Thailand and the USA. During the course of the project, several new programmes were successfully implemented, including the lecture series “Sustainability across Regions”, the international semester “Bavarian Village Semester”, the international Master’s programme “Sustainable Regional Development”, the certificate programme “Entrepreneurship and Innovations in Agritech and Food”, and a series of training courses on the development of international study formats.
All three projects made a significant contribution to strengthening practice-oriented higher education, promoting the exchange of knowledge and enhancing international cooperation in the agricultural and life sciences.

Building on the results achieved so far, the joint activities are to be continued in new projects within the international partner network.
