HSWT delegation in Zambia: Cooperation as part of the „Green Futures“ project
A delegation from the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf (HSWT) recently travelled to Zambia to set important milestones as part of the "Green Futures" project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).
Cooperation between UNZA and HSWT officially sealed
A significant highlight of the trip was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNZA and HSWT by the Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity at HSWT, Prof Dr Carsten Lorz, and the Vice Chancellor of UNZA, Prof Dr Mundia Muya. This agreement formalises the future cooperation between the two institutions and marks an important step towards a long-term partnership.
Visits to innovative training centres and farmers
The delegation visited the Kasisi Agricultural Training Centre and the Agricultural Knowledge and Training Centre (AKTC), two outstanding institutions for agricultural training. Both centres are characterised by their practice-oriented work. Another highlight were the visits to two Zambian farmers, Mr Mumba and Mr Phiri, who are implementing innovative approaches such as agroforestry and diversification on their farms.
Talks with German organisations
At the end of the trip, talks with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the German Ambassador to Zambia, H. E. Anne Wagner-Mitchell, were on the programme. During these talks, the cooperation between Zambia and Germany was further intensified and potential for future projects was discussed.
Project goals of „Green Futures“
Productive discussions also took place within the Green Futures team on the content and organisational aspects of the project. „Green Futures“ aims to strengthen marginalised groups in the agricultural sector in southern Africa through knowledge transfer and capacity development. The focus is on women, young and smallholder farmers and university students, with a particular emphasis on gender and role sensitivity.
