Over 60 participants from all over the world came together for the digital kick-off and sent a strong international signal at the start of the programme.

Start2Scale is a joint educational initiative of the EU projects ProxIMed(HSWT research side) and STREAMING(HSWT research side), both coordinated by the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HSWT). The programme was primarily developed and implemented by the Food Startup Incubator Weihenstephan (FSIWS), which contributes its expertise in supporting food startups.

The aim of the programme is to support innovative ideas in the food sector from the initial idea through to scalable business models. Start2Scale combines the strengths of both EU projects: While ProxIMed focuses on sustainable food systems in the Mediterranean region, STREAMING contributes expertise in the areas of knowledge transfer, innovation and market access. The interface between the two initiatives creates a practical, internationally oriented funding programme for prospective start-ups.

Active involvement of the participants

Particular emphasis is placed on the active involvement of the 163 participants from 30 countries: Regular challenges promote the practical application of what they have learnt - more than half of the participants have already submitted contributions. The programme is complemented by a digital learning platform that offers additional courses.

The kick-off in mid-March showed how good this concept is: the dialogue was lively, participation was high and the international network was tangible right from the start. The programme is accompanied by numerous experts from the field, including keynote speaker Tobias Greissing.

Start2Scale runs from March to September 2026 (with a summer break in August) and involves a workload of around ten hours per month. Afterwards, there is the opportunity to take part in an additional six-month mentoring programme, which extends the total duration to up to one year. All participants receive a certificate from the University of Applied Sciences.
