Germany Scholarship Awards Ceremony attended by 120 guests at the HSWT
Every year, the sponsors of the Deutschlandstipendium meet with their new scholarship holders to get to know one another and exchange ideas. This time, the International Office, Funding and Career Service (IFC) organised the event in the foyer of the D1 building at HSWT.
HSWT President Dr Eric Veulliet presented the scholarship recipients with their certificates; in the current cycle, 35 sponsors – including foundations, associations, private individuals and companies – are supporting 79 students.
The financial support provided by the scholarship, amounting to 300 euros per month and awarded for a period of twelve months, offers the scholarship recipients significant financial relief, whilst also serving as recognition of their achievements.
An international and entertaining evening
The international scholarship recipients, in particular, gave the sponsors interesting insights into their home countries and highlighted the efforts required to study in Germany. Learning German, for example, is not easy for them. Consequently, other guests at the tables frequently translated the president’s words into English. Dr Eric Veulliet had prepared entertaining questions for all scholarship recipients and sponsors, which also conveyed information about the HSWT. For example, the guests learnt who elects the president and how many young people are currently studying at the University of applied sciences.
Building long-term networks
The centrepiece of the celebration was the conversations between the sponsors and their scholarship holders. The sponsors repeatedly emphasised how important contact with young people is to them, and how this often leads to the development of long-term relationships. For example, one sponsor emphasised that she would work to find internship placements for ‘her’ scholarship recipients from Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. Some companies also use the Germany Scholarship to attract talented young professionals to their organisations. A number of sponsors even travelled long distances – from the Rhineland, Offenburg and Wiesbaden – to spend this special evening at the HSWT with the scholarship holders.
