AgroMissionHub 2026 showcases pioneering research projects
At the ‘Show and Tell’ event on 15 July, TUM, LfL and HSWT presented eight AgroMissionHub projects that had received funding. They highlighted just how much of a difference joint agricultural research makes.
The event provided an overview of the progress made in the research projects and highlighted the unique dynamics of cross-institutional collaboration. Researchers from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the Bavarian State Institute for Agriculture (LfL) and Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences (HSWT) presented the current status of the eight funded projects within the AgroMissionHub (AMH) framework.
Projects highlight the breadth of agricultural research
- APART is investigating how agricultural crops can be designed and managed to specifically promote pollinators and enhance their ecological performance.
- AMAIzed is developing an AI-supported robotic multitasking system designed to make agricultural processes more efficient using drones and autonomous procedures.
- BioBayGrün analyses how biodiversity in Bavarian permanent grassland is changing and which ecological factors influence these developments.
- Grazing/Grassland BGD is researching how different grazing practices and shrub growth shape carbon storage and biodiversity in grassland ecosystems.
- GWECAs identifies resistance genes designed to make plants more resilient to climate change, using genome-wide epidemiological and climatic analyses.
- NEOM investigates how organic matter is transformed in soils and how this process influences nitrogen availability for crops.
- The Veitshof Laboratory and Experimental Station is developing a concept for a modern research and experimental infrastructure designed to provide optimal support for future agricultural science projects.
- VerticalPharm is investigating how medicinal plants can be efficiently cultivated using vertical farming and which technological factors influence their biomass and the quality of their active ingredients.
Highlighting collaborations
The event was opened by Dr Annette Freibauer, Vice-President for Knowledge at the LfL. She thanked the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts and the Agriculture Committee of the Bavarian State Parliament for their funding and support. In his welcoming address, Prof. Dr Senthold Asseng, Scientific Director of the Hans Eisenmann Forum at TUM, highlighted the exceptionally good collaboration between TUM, LfL and HSWT. Prof. Dr Christoph Moning, Vice-President for Research and Knowledge Transfer at HSWT, praised the breadth and innovative strength of the joint projects.
All the contributions made it clear that the close collaboration between the three institutions is a key factor in their success. The AMH provides a structured platform for this, raising the profile of joint research and further strengthening it. In future, additional event formats are to be developed to further expand the networking of agricultural research.
