Agribusiness: Agriculture meets economic expertise
Course ambassadors give prospective students an authentic insight into university life. In this interview, Ida Hülsbusch and André Hartmann explain why their degree programme is so varied.
How does your agribusiness degree programme combine markets, management, technology and Agriculture? And what role does sustainability play in this?
Ida: Our degree programme is based on modules with an economic, agricultural and technological focus. The main emphasis is on economics, which also includes markets and management. The lecturers usually teach us these topics using practical agricultural examples. Sustainability is addressed within each individual module, and there are also additional modules designed to explore the topic in greater depth.
How practical is the degree programme, and what experience can students gain during the work placement semester or through project work?
Ida: Thanks to the work placement semester, the degree programme has a direct link to the world of work. The work placement offers the chance to individually deepen the knowledge gained in the first semesters whilst working in companies. We also sometimes collaborate with companies on project work, which gives us practical insight.
Which sectors and companies benefit most from the skills taught on the Agribusiness degree programme?
André: Above all, the sectors upstream and downstream of Agriculture benefit from the content taught on the programme. As a graduate of the Agribusiness programme, you can work in all areas along the agricultural value chain.
Who is the Agribusiness degree programme particularly suited to?
André: For anyone with an interest in Agriculture who would like to work primarily in the upstream and downstream sectors in the future. In the upstream sector, this includes, for example, agricultural engineering and food processing, and in the downstream sector, distribution.
What are your responsibilities as programme ambassadors, and who can get in touch with you?
André: As programme representatives, we represent the Agribusiness programme at information events, provide insights into the programme from a student’s perspective, and answer questions about the programme and life in Freising.
