20 years of the Friends of Weihenstephan Gardens e.V.
To mark the 20th anniversary of the Weihenstephaner Gärten e.V. friends' association, members of the university and guests of honour planted an anniversary tree in the Weihenstephaner Gärten allotment gardens.
Since the founding event with 30 founding members two decades ago, the association has grown to over 400 members. To mark this special occasion, an anniversary tree was planted as a symbol of growth and life. Prof Dr Swantje Duthweiler, director of the Weihenstephan Gardens, chose the apple thorn, a tree of the future that will cope well with the changing climate conditions.
In this special year, the association would also like to thank its members and sponsors. Various projects in the Weihenstephan Gardens have been supported with funding totalling over 250,000 euros since the association was founded. The planting and vigorous watering of the 20-year-old tree of the future was a fitting symbolic contribution.
Examples of the projects supported include Terracotta pots for the courtyard garden, benches and garden furniture for the gardens, woody plants for the arboretum, information boards as an internal guidance system for the Weihenstephan Gardens, PIAGGIO APE vans, a Gator Te electric car, and an aCar from EVUM Motors.
