Application for the summer semester

Applications for a start of studies in the summer semester 2022 will presumably be possible from 8 December 2022.

For bachelor’s degree programmes, applications can only be made for higher semesters in the summer semester. For most master’s degree programmes, you can also apply for the first semester of study.

The closing date for the submission of applications is 15 January 2023 (cut-off period). Please note that all necessary documents must have been received by Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences by this date.

Please also see the additional information regarding admission requirements at the web pages of the individual Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes.

Applications for the coming winter semester will be accepted from the start of May 2023.

If you have questions about applications and degree programmes, please get in touch with Student.Service or the relevant contact person for admissions. Alternatively, if you have general questions you can contact the  General Course Guidance Service.

Note about web browsers and document formats

If you are using a mobile browser, you may be unable to use certain functions of the application portal. We would therefore recommend that you do not use a smartphone to complete your online application, and especially not to upload your documents.

Before you begin your application, please ensure that you have the necessary documents ready to upload.

It is generally only possible to upload documents in PDF format. Before starting your application, please ensure that you have the documents in the correct format.

What happens after the online application?

Filling in the online application is the first step in applying to study HSWT.

You do not need to submit hard copies of your documents to the university.

Please note: You must upload your certificate as a minimum. If you do not have a certificate yet, you must upload your CV as a minimum.

Once you have been offered a place at the university, the next step is to register. To do this, you may have to submit documents in a specific format by post, e.g. as certified copies. We will inform you of which documents we require in the application portal.

You can view your application status at any time in the application portal. This is also where you can see whether we require any additional documents from you. We therefore advise that you regularly check your account, your emails and your spam folder.

Start looking for accommodation early, especially if you would like to take up studies at the Weihenstephan campus (in Freising). Helpful tips for doing so and much more can be found in our FAQs.

Admission requirements

Higher education entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB)

Proof of a higher education entrance qualification is provided by

  • a subject-related higher education entrance qualification certificate (Fachgebundenen Hochschulreife) recognised in Bavaria or
  • a general higher education entrance qualification certificate (Allgemeinen Hochschulreife) recognised in Bavaria or
  • a higher education entrance qualification certificate recognised in Bavaria for an advanced technical college (Fachhochschule).

People with professional qualifications

People with professional qualifications may also apply for admission. People with a master craftsman certificate, a further education and training certificate equivalent to the master craftsman certificate, or with a certificate of education and training from public and officially recognised technical schools and academies are entitled to apply for direct admission to a university of applied sciences or a university. People who have completed professional training of at least two years' duration and who have at least three years' relevant professional experience in an area related to the degree programme to which they seek admission can be admitted to a trial course of study.

In degree programmes with restricted admission, 3% of places are reserved for applicants with professional qualifications.

Applicants with professional qualifications must attend an advisory interview at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences with the subject advisor for the respective degree programme. Please attach the certificate of attendance at the advisory interview to your application.

Certificates from other federal states of the Federal Republic of Germany

Higher education entrance qualification certificates from grammar schools, higher education qualification certificates from upper secondary vocational schools, and subject-specific higher education qualification certificates from colleges of further education from other federal states are also recognised in Bavaria. This also applies to other certificates containing the statement that the certificate has been decreed at the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) to entitle the holder of the certificate to admission to a course of study at a university of applied sciences.

School leavers' certificates from grammar schools in other federal states that are recognised there as a higher education entrance qualification are not recognised as such in Bavaria.

In case of doubt, please submit a copy of the certificate to us so that we may check whether it is recognised in Bavaria as a higher education entrance qualification.

More than one higher education entrance qualification

If you have more than one higher education entrance qualification, e.g. Fachhochschulreife (FHR) (advanced technical college entrance qualification) and Abitur (A-level equivalent) from a technical secondary school, you can decide which certificate you attach to your application. If you provide us with more than one higher education entrance qualification and do not make a decision, we will base our decision on the first one you acquired.

If you are applying for a master’s degree, please also state your first university entrance qualification (e.g. general university entrance qualification) in addition to your bachelor’s degree.

Applications should be submitted using the form available from the university (see Application forms for guest students).

Your application should include a certified copy of your higher education entrance qualification. You should indicate the specific courses that you wish to take, giving the module number and the weekly hours per semester ('Semesterwochenstunden').

The name of the course, its module number and the number of weekly hours per semester can be determined from the current study guidelines and examination regulations for the course. All applications for the winter semester must have been received by the university by 15 July, and for the summer semester by 15 January.

The fees per semester are

  • € 100 for 1–4 weekly hours per semester

  • € 300 for more than 8 weekly hours per semester.

It is not possible to take courses totalling more than 10 weekly hours per semester.

Enrolment as a guest student is only possible where it does not negatively impact upon the studies of the ordinary students. It is not possible to enrol as a guest student onto courses which have admissions restrictions, or courses for which laboratory or other work positions are required. Please check in advance which courses have restrictions on admissions. Guest students do not become members of the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences when they enrol. Guest students may not take part in examinations. It is not possible to enrol as a guest student and as an ordinary student at the same time.
