Scholarships

Numerous scholarships and funding programmes for study-related trips abroad are offered by various different organisations.

You can obtain detailed information from the individual funding agencies directly or from the International Office at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences, who are happy to advise you.

Scholarships awarded by HSWT

For the following scholarships and grants, please apply directly to the International Office at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences. You can find out which of the programmes listed below are currently running on our 'Neuigkeiten' section at the German website.

Erasmus+

The Erasmus programme provides funding for study trips to partner universities (3–12 months) and internships (2–12 months) in Europe. You can find more information here.

PROMOS

The 'Programme for Increased Mobility of German Students' (PROMOS) is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The following placements are eligible for funding:

  • Mandatory placements abroad (6 weeks to 6 months)
  • Study and research trips as well as thesis work abroad (1–6 months)

Excluded from this are trips in the Erasmus region or as part of Erasmus partnerships, unless the applicant has previously received Erasmus funding.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled as a student of HSWT (either on a bachelor’s degree or a diploma course)
  • German nationality (including international students if they are on equal terms with German students according to Section 8 BAföG [German Federal Education and Training Assistance Act])
  • Submission of confirmation from the company or university
  • Good knowledge of the relevant language or business language
  • Good academic achievements and strong motivation
  • Study abroad is eligible for credits in current degree programme
  • No Foreign Office travel warning for the relevant region

Scholarship value:

  • Partial scholarship of €300 per month or up to €500 per month for some countries (only for part of the trip, if applicable)
    and/or
  • Travel allowance, amount dependent on destination country

In conjunction with funding via a partial scholarship rate and/or travel allowance, tuition fees of the host university may also be covered.

In the case of 'BAföG' study abroad support, €300 of the partial scholarship per month remains exempt. Amounts in excess of this will be deducted from the 'BAföG' study abroad support. If a travel allowance is granted, the travel grant of the 'BAföG' study abroad support no longer applies.

When and where to apply:

Application packs are available at the International Office, which also publishes the relevant application deadlines on their news page at the German website. The application pack must be submitted to the International Office by the stated deadline.

The scholarships are awarded by HSWT as part of a quality-focussed selection process.

Internationalisation of universities

The Bavarian State Ministry of Education, Science and the Arts programme supports students undertaking a recognised placement abroad.

The following placements are eligible for funding:

  • Mandatory internships
  • Study trips
  • Theses

Excluded from this are trips in the Erasmus region or as part of Erasmus partnerships, unless the applicant has previously received Erasmus funding.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must be enrolled as a student of HSWT
  • Technical aptitude, good academic achievements
  • Good personal skills
  • Lack of own financial resources (dependent on the student’s income)
  • Study abroad is eligible for credits in current degree programme

Funding is excluded if a grant for the same purpose is awarded by another provider.

Scholarship value:

  • Allowance for living costs up to max. €150 per month
    and/or
  • Travel allowance of max. €500 within Europe or max. €1000 outside Europe

Application forms are available in the 'Neuigkeiten' section at the German website or from the International Office at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences and must be submitted to the International Office.

Scholarships and funding from other organisations

The following scholarships and grants are not awarded directly by HSWT. Applications must be submitted to the relevant organisation directly. However, the International Office is happy to advise you on the various programmes available.

'BAföG' study abroad support

... can be applied for by students with permanent residence in Germany for a subject-related trip abroad (study and internship).

… funds students from Universities of Applied Sciences during their stays abroad for studies, internships or thesis. More information (in German) 

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) – Annual scholarships

... are awarded for a study placement at a recognised university abroad and are generally for one academic year. More information (in German)

German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) – Combined study semester and practical training semester abroad

... can be funded as part of the annual scholarship programme, as long as the study semester and practical training semester are completed in the same country. The offer applies to all regions of the world and all subjects.
