Library inductions for students

New to the university or haven't used the library before?

You can get an initial overview here: Short library presentation

If you want to get to know the library from the inside, our library inductions are just what you need. In this induction, you will learn how to find your way around the library and search the library catalogue/OPAC.

At the Weihenstephan campus, these inductions are available all year round for small groups (register in advance). Signing up for a session couldn’t be easier:

  • The minimum number of participants is three people and due to the coronavirus, the maximum is currently five. Simply get together with your fellow students and register.
  • To express your interest, please send an email to bibliothek [at] and provide the following information: names and contact details (telephone number and email address) of all participants, desired date (Mon to Fri between 13:00 and 16:00).

We will then get in touch with you and prepare for your visit.

The 3G rule (vaccinated, recovered, tested) applies in the library; please present corresponding proof without having to be prompted.

During your visit, please wear a face covering (at least medical mask) and disinfect your hands immediately after entering the building. You will also need your Student.Card.

Unfortunately, no library inductions are taking place at the moment in Triesdorf. If interested, please speak to a member of staff at the service desk in Triesdorf Library or email bibliothek.triesdorf [at]

We are available at any time to answer your questions. Please get in touch by calling us or sending an email to the Weihenstephan or Triesdorf library.

Inductions for departments/courses on searching for literature

For students of individual subjects or departments, in agreement with the relevant lecturer we offer subject-specific inductions on searching for literature. These sessions generally last 90 minutes, but they can also be arranged as block seminars across an entire semester. We are more than happy to adapt to your requirements. Please contact us and provide the following information: Department, subject, desired topics, number of participants, desired session duration and depth.

Tailored inductions on carrying out subject-based searches

The library offers tailored inductions on carrying out subject-based searches (these may be of interest if you are working on a dissertation, presentation, project or preparing for a seminar). During these induction sessions, you will learn how to tailor the information available in the library to suit your own individual needs. We will tell you how to search for a particular topic in catalogues, literature databases and e-resources, how to get hold of the titles once you have found them and how best to manage them. These induction sessions are available to individuals or small groups of up to five people. Please provide us with the topic of your search when arranging a date and time for your induction. You should allow around 60 to 90 minutes for the induction.

Please register by sending an e-mail to marion.strauss [at] (for students in Weihenstephan) or to bibliothek.triesdorf [at] (for students in Triesdorf).
