Biography
Kambiz Morabbi is a Professor of Microbiology at the University of Applied Sciences Weihenstephan-Triesdorf (HSWT). His expertise lies in microbial strain development, genetic engineering, and biotechnology.
He earned a Bachelor's degree in Microbiology from Karaj Azad University, a Master's from Shahid Beheshti University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Stuttgart’s Institute of Industrial Genetics (IIG). He further expanded his expertise through postdoctoral research at IIG and the Department of Bioprocess Engineering at the University of Hohenheim.
In 2019, he joined Clariant as Lead Scientist for microbial strain development and Project Manager, spearheading the development of a bacterial platform for enzyme production. Since October 2024, as a professor at HSWT, he has been driving innovation in molecular microbiology and microbial biotechnology.

Research
My research focuses on developing microbial strains and genetic tools for the sustainable production of biomolecules from renewable resources, such as lignocellulose. We utilize model organisms like Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli to optimize the conversion of these feedstocks into valuable products. Additionally, we explore the potential of other modifiable organisms in our laboratory, including Pseudomonas alloputida, Corynebacterium glutamicum, Vibrio natriegens, and Komagataella pfaffii.
Our work delves into protein-DNA interactions and advanced gene expression systems to achieve precise genetic control and enhance microbial biosynthesis efficiency. By advancing biotechnological processes, we aim to drive the sustainable production of biochemicals and proteins from renewable resources.
