Thomas Muhr

The company geo-konzept develops hardware and software for self-propelled machines, for implements, for feeding management, for remote sensing systems or data management for farmers, but also for the mining industry. 60 staff advise customers locally in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and worldwide and develop new solutions and technologies at three locations in Germany. Engineer and farmer Thomas Muhr founded the company in 1992, which has been sponsoring a Germany Scholarship at HSWT for years.

Muhr, who studied agricultural sciences at the Technical University of Munich and at the same time ran his parents' farm, knows how important it is to combine theory and practice, but also to be open to new inventions, so that farmers can benefit from progress, especially in digitalisation. With the Germany Scholarship, the company wants to support qualified and committed young professionals, but personal contact is particularly important to him, says the Managing Director. From his own experience as a student, he knows how valuable early contact with practice is, for example, in order to overcome reservations about new technologies in agricultural engineering and fear of contact with industry.

When Muhr founded his company 30 years ago, digitalisation in agriculture and thus precision farming was still in its infancy. For example, there was no Google Earth to correctly record field sizes in order to apply for subsidies, he recalls. geo-konzept then developed a solution for this. The company already has a long relationship with the HSWT and numerous graduates have chosen a career in the company.
