Roger Legath
The Vion Food Group is an international food company with production sites in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium and is one of the top 100 food producing companies worldwide. For many years, the meat company has sponsored three German scholarships at the HSWT and supports academic training, describes HR Manager Roger Legath. But of course Vion also wants to attract young talent.
Vion has 16 locations in Germany, employing about 6,000 staff. Four business units - Beef, Pork, Food Service and Retail - supply fresh meat products, vegetable alternatives and by-products for (retail) trade, gastronomy and the meat processing industry. Vion has traditionally had close ties to the Triesdorf site in particular, but also to Weihenstephan. At the company locations in Buchloe and Crailsheim, HSWT students gained their first experience in the food sector as interns, and graduates are repeatedly hired or taken on in the trainee programme.
Therefore, supporting students with Germany scholarships is only logical, Legath describes. "We are happy when students are interested in our company," says the personnel manager. It is important to him to improve the image of the meat industry. "We want to take on social responsibility with our young talent". Vion also processes organic meat and produces vegetarian meat substitutes. The food sector is future-proof, because no one can live without it, Legath emphasises.
