Our goal: "Gender Balance in Science"
The women's representatives at the HSWT are working to achieve gender balance and are also incorporating intersectional approaches. This is because the reasons for the imbalance in science and research are complex and cannot be attributed to gender alone.
Explanation of terms
Intersectionality means that individuals can be affected by different forms of discrimination that overlap with each other. For example, a female academic with Iranian roots may be exposed to discrimination on the basis of her skin colour as well as her gender. In contrast to a homosexual man in academia, she is exposed to other forms of discrimination. Although both enjoy more privileges than a low-income white man, they also experience discrimination in everyday life that this man does not have to. The same applies to people with physical or mental disabilities.
Measures that are considered to be in favour of women do not automatically have to exclude other genders, but can in many cases benefit all genders. The HSWT consistently implements the Gender Balance in Science 2021 - 2025 concept by formulating binding, future-oriented goals and measures. The goal is a diverse, equitable university culture.
Tasks of the Women's & Equal Opportunities Officer
Our Women's and Equal Opportunities Officers support the university management, the Senate and the departments in implementing equal opportunities for women and men at all levels. The women's representatives support female academics, female teaching staff, female employees and female students in achieving their goals. Equal opportunities officers are responsible for all non-academic employees, regardless of their gender.
This is what the contact persons in the area of gender equality do:
- Organisation of seminars, workshops & coaching sessions
- Advice on strategic & personal matters relating to studies or career
- Assistance with entering professional life or continuing your academic career
- Offers for the compatibility of family & studies or career within the framework of the family-friendly University of applied sciences
The Women's and Equal Opportunities Officers are available by telephone, e-mail and in person, especially when it comes to questions about difficult life or study situations.

We therefore attach great importance to further education and training in this area.
How does the certificate work?
At least two gender/diversity-related seminars offered at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences must be completed. In addition, an individual gender and diversity concept for your own teaching and research must be submitted. It should comprise approx. 5,000 characters and will be assessed and evaluated by the HSWT's University Women's Representatives.

What do we offer? In the event of an "out-of-order situation", we can provide financial support for self-organised childcare. This is emergency childcare. It is not intended to cover private appointments, but to cover a shortage of childcare relevant to the university.
Who is the programme aimed at? This offer is aimed at all female lecturers at HSWT with a child who have a university-related childcare bottleneck (emergency), e.g:
- Further education
- Internship assignment
- Postponement of an event
- Illness of the child
- Cancellation of regular childcare
- Comparable reasons
What do I have to do? Describe the reason in a written (informal) enquiry with proof of the need, the time period and the financial scope of the planned childcare. Once we have agreed to take over the childcare, you will need to organise a childminder yourself. The fee for this must first be paid in advance. HSWT will transfer the childcare allowance once you have submitted proof of the services provided.

Perspectives on the pandemic
A vernissage on demand at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences: The coronavirus pandemic has had a lasting impact on (university) life and created a new "everyday life". Much of what has happened since spring 2020 was hardly imaginable a year ago. And yet we have successfully completed both the summer semester 2020 and the winter semester 2020/2021 and have found a new normality in many things. The focus is usually on our own environment and our own sphere of influence. However, the pandemic has many more facets.
The Vice President for International Affairs and Diversity and the Women's Representatives team therefore organised an exhibition to mark the first anniversary of the lockdown and the start of the 2021 summer semester. As this "event" could not take place in person as originally planned, we published the submitted contributions, integrated into an interactive PDF, as a "vernissage on demand" on the anniversary of the first lockdown.

Become a HAW Professor" campaign
On 7 January 2021, the virtual kick-off event for the "Become a professor" campaign got off to a brilliant start with around 350 participants. Minister of State Bernd Sibler took over the welcoming words and emphasised that increasing the proportion of female professors is a fundamental goal of the ministry. Prof Dr Jutta Allmendinger (President of the WZB) then gave a talk entitled "On joy, sorrow, many hurdles and a beautiful profession. Women in science today."
The HSWT is participating in this project with €10,000 from the funds of the target agreement for the advancement of women. Two female professors from our HSWT family are also active as role models: Prof Dr Prisca Kremer-Rücker from the Triesdorf campus and Prof Dr Özlem Özmutlu Karslioglu from the Weihenstephan campus.

Women Professors Programme II (2015 - 2019)
Participation in the Programme for Women Professors (PPII)
The positive evaluation enabled HSWT to participate in the Programme for Women Professors (PPII) of the federal and state governments.
This involved funding for additional measures to promote gender equality, supplemented by the University of applied sciences' own funds. 420,000 was made available in the PPII in the years 2015 - 2019 for additional measures to promote gender equality at HSWT .
PPII-A term: 2015 - 2016
PPII-B term: 2015 - 2019Objectives of the PPII
The Women Professors Programme was designed to sustainably improve the representation of women at all qualification levels in the academic system! The Female Professors Programme was an important driver for integrating aspects that promote gender equality at the HSWT and manifesting gender equality as a management task. -
His or Hers?" campaign
2016: Campaign by the Women's Representative at Munich University of Applied Sciences for more gender equality
"'I don't need gender, I've got good grades!" Today, both women and men often perceive their own actions as gender-neutral. And yet internal images of women and men influence their own actions and decisions every day.
For the Women's Representatives at Munich University of Applied Sciences, this was the reason for the "His or Hers?" campaign to bring gender equality back into the discussion. The campaign was launched in the 2016/2017 winter semester with an initial poster campaign aimed at drawing attention to stereotypical role distributions.
The successful campaign was organised as a travelling exhibition at several Bavarian universities. In 2017, HSWT created its own posters based on the idea from the University of Applied Sciences Munich.

I Love Science" campaign
The fascination for scientific work and gaining knowledge is at the centre of the joint campaign "I Love Science" by the Bavarian Science Forum and LaKoF Bayern. The campaign provides information about the qualification path to a doctorate - with information, tips and insights into the everyday life of doctoral students.
One of the faces of the campaign is Cynthia Tobisch, a doctoral student at HSWT in the BayWISS Joint Academic Programme "Life Sciences and Green Technologies".
