UNIcert® Foreign Language Certificate

The Language Centre at the Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences offers students at both of the University’s campuses in Weihenstephan and Triesdorf the opportunity to acquire a UNIcert® Foreign Language Certificate. This is an inter-university and supra-regional additional qualification that guarantees a comparable level of training. UNIcert® is currently offered at some 60 universities.

The UNIcert® formation programme offers foreign language training that is specific to universities and geared towards studying, practical training and the workplace. It allows students to become acquainted with the culture of the target language country and provides students with both foreign-language and intercultural skills. The programme enables students to successfully undertake work placements and studies abroad and boosts mobility and competitiveness among graduates on the national and international labour market.

The following UNIcert® foreign language programmes are offered:

  • UNIcert® Basic in French, Italian and Spanish (all eight hours per week) and Russian (10 hours per week):

The basic introductory level comprises four successive courses:

    • French, Italian, Spanish: Course 1, 2, 3 and 4 (all two hours per week) for beginners with no previous knowledge.
    • Course 3 and 4 (both two hours per week): it is possible for students who have demonstrated language skills in a placement test at level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages to join the programme at course 3.
    • Russian: Course 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (all two hours per week) for beginners with no previous knowledge. It is possible for students who have demonstrated language skills in a placement test at level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages to join the programme at course 4.

Learning objective: To acquire basic, everyday language and intercultural communication skills. UNIcert® Basic corresponds to level "A2 – Elementary" of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the European Council.

Conditions for participating in UNIcert® training at the basic introductory level

The courses generally aim to build on knowledge acquired in school. Students with corresponding previous knowledge do not have to attend the basic course if this is below their level as determined by a placement test at the start of the semester. The corresponding exams must be taken at the end of the UNIcert® training.

Regular attendance (at least 75%) at all UNIcert® classes is required and is a prerequisite for taking the exams.

    Certificate

After successfully completing all mandatory courses, participants shall receive a UNIcert® Certificate for the UNIcert® basic introductory level.

  • UNIcert® I in French and Spanish (four hours per week):
